Responding to Katrina
I just posted an insightful article from Jim Henderson of Off The Map on Next-Wave. He writes about how the flood has revealed the legacy of slavery, racism and poverty in America. Along with Spencer Burke and myself, Jim is urging our readers to support the efforts of missional church leader, Jason Evans, to gather information and bring relief in the aftermath of Katrina. He concludes the article:
"I want to help!
Jason Evans is a young leader living in San Diego with his wife and children. Together with their friends they live in intentional community and seek to serve those living near them.
Jason is one of those people who find it difficult to talk about stuff if you don’t intend to do something. He has been making contacts with missional leaders in New Orleans and is planning to go there to visit with them and see how he can help.
Jason is a former editor of Next-Wave and is close friends with myself and Spencer Burke. Charlie Wear of Next-Wave, Spencer Burke of the Ooze and myself (Off The Map) have decided to get behind Jason and let people know about his project to help hurricane victims in the South.
We urge you to contribute finances, time and prayer to Jason’s project. Learn more about what he is doing and how you can be a part here."

Praying and giving...
Americans are praying and giving in response to the Katrina disaster. Young and old are giving money and time. For a powerful report on prayer and compassion read this post from Jeremy Del Rio >>>. Jeremy writes about his son,: "Judah started to preach. I remembered that my phone was on the table by his bed, so I recorded the end of his message. "I want to go to states where people are homeless, don't have any food or mom or dad, I want to try and find their mom and dad and I want to try and find them food and love them." The people who don't know God, "I want them to know God and be a Christian like me and you." Even though he can't personally go to help the hurricane victims, he decided, "Praying is the best way to save them now becuase we can't go there and save them."
Preach it brother...may we all be touched by the spirit of compassion and intercession.
